The vibrant Hawke’s Bay district boasts many unique wineries, activities and festivals for you to enjoy.
Napier is the Art Deco Capital of the World. Take a guided tour to learn the history of the devastating 1931 earthquake that destroyed and ultimately changed the face of this quaint town. Or stroll along the streets on your own to see the most comprehensive Art Deco styled town in the world.

Hawke’s Bay is New Zealand’s oldest wine growing region. The mild winters and warm sun-soaked summers make this area a prime location for some of the world’s leading Chardonnay, Syrah, and Bordeaux blend reds. There are over 30 cellar doors within 15 minutes of Breckenridge Lodge to taste or tour. A variety of tours are available and can be arranged to pick up and drop off at the lodge.

With over 200 kilometers of cycling trails along the coast or amongst the vines there is path for every level of cyclist. Bikes can be delivered to the lodge, or you can be outfitted, dropped off and picked up by a touring company for a day of sightseeing or wine tasting.

Golf

There are three impressive golf courses in the area. The Napier Golf Club is a mere 3 kilometers from the lodge and is one of the oldest clubs in the country. It hosted the first New Zealand Open. Hastings Golf Club is a 15-minute drive from the lodge and is ranked as one of the top 10 courses in the country. Cape Kidnappers is a 45 minute drive to the club house and has been consistently listed as one of the top golf destinations in the world since its opening in 2004.

The Farmers Market in Hastings is on every Sunday rain or shine! A traditional market where you can meet the grower or producer and buy direct from the source.

Whether you want to take a relaxing stroll or get the heart pumping we have it all from sea to bush. Close to the lodge you can explore our gardens for a quite stroll, walk the limestone path by the river or to a historical Maori land site. A few minutes in the car can take you to walks along the aqua sea, through green native bush, among bird thriving estuaries, or to the top of Te Mata Peak, which has panoramic views of the entire bay area.

Enjoy the best vistas of the area on horseback. Beginners to advance riders can choose rides by the sea, along the river or even through the vines to lunch at a winery.

Hunting

With plenty of food growing in sunny Hawke’s Bay both the game and fowl in this area are healthy and well fed. Depending on the season guided tours with equipment can be arranged for sika deer, red deer, fallow deer, wild goat, wild boar, water fowl and pheasant. Guides can arrange for trophies to be mounted and shipped accordingly.
